About The Museum
The reconstruction and completion of the Firefighters' Museum in Ostrava on Zákrejsova Street in Ostrava Přívoz was completed in 2004 and we cordially invite you to visit the exhibition.
The reason for the construction of the Firefighters' Museum of Ostrava was the desire to create a dignified environment that offers the professional and general public a view of the history of fire protection, the development of technical means and the activities of firefighters.
The exhibition of the Firefighters' Museum itself consists of seven parts, which provide not only an insight into the history of firefighting, but also examples of current technology, technical equipment, model situations, cooperation of the integrated rescue system and demonstrations of rescue work at height and over free depth. In conjunction with each other, these exhibitions create a picture of a wide range of areas related to firefighting.
The first part of the exposition consists of model situations that serve as examples of interventions related to the activities of firefighters. The first part of the exposition also includes a number of collectible models of cars, equipment, patches and objects that give an indication of the imagination of the collector's passion. Models of a hotel fire, a train accident involving a train carrying chemicals, a mine fire, a hotel fire, and a car accident in a tunnel are all featured in the exhibit. The models are the result of the handiwork of enthusiasts and collectors.
In the second part, the origin and development of firefighting is presented, the exposition is made up of historical objects ranging from statues of St. Florian, uniforms, helmets, signals, sirens, banners to documents, invitations and training orders that describe how rich the history of firefighting is. The exhibition documenting the origins and history of firefighting features over 60 exhibits. Helmets and uniforms are among the most numerous, while the most interesting ones include a very rare ceremonial firefighter's command sabre and a serrated fang.
The third part takes place in the cinema room with a large screen projection, where films shot during real firefighter interventions are shown. The range of DVD titles includes not only films about floods, fires, technical interventions, but also a demonstration of the activities of the Emergency Call Centre of the City of Ostrava. Upon agreement, it is also possible to choose from other titles that describe the individual activities of firefighters in more detail.
This is followed by a unique exhibition of the Integrated Safety Centre, which simulates the cooperation of the integrated rescue system in dealing with incidents.
Another part of the exposition is a demonstration of rescuing people in a traffic accident, including a demonstration of currently used techniques. It also shows the cooperation of the Integrated Rescue System in this intervention. This is followed by a demonstration of rescue work by firefighter-climbers at height and above free depth. The demonstration is divided into three sections, which characterise some of the usual activities of firefighter-climbers (pulling a person out of a well, climbing a tree, rope bridge-tyrolean traverse).
The last part of the exposition is an overview of the origin and development of firefighting technology, especially firefighting syringes. The development is documented by the exposition from firefighting buckets through hand and horse-drawn, to motorized firefighting sprinklers. In this part, the visitor can practically experience how fire fighting was carried out in the nineteenth century with the help of this equipment.
